Brendan Langley is 25 years old and is recently married. He has grown up in the Illawarra area and completed his schooling and educational training locally. He and his wife continue to reside locally with the hope of moving to Sydney in the near future. Brendan did not always want to be a teacher, although he did love helping people. His initial dream was to become a physiotherapist mainly focusing on sports injuries. During his final years of high school while completing his HSC he found that he was helping a lot of his peer with their work especially in the health and science subjects that he was studying. It was during this time that he first began to think about becoming a teacher. On the back of this discovery, while Brendan was at TAFE completing his Diploma of Remedial Massage, we would volunteer his time to his church and help them run various schooling programs such as scripture in primary and high schools as well as helping to run Friday youth programs. After completing his TAFE Diploma Brendan found that working directly in health care was not for him and he decided to take some time working in Sydney to discover what he really wanted to be doing for a career. Brendan although working in Sydney continued to remain involved in the school programs run by his church and it was during one of the local high school seminar that the trigger was pushed for him to get into teaching. Brendan saw the way some of the teachers where responding to students when they would ask for help and he saw teachers would not offering support. It was from that moment Brendan decided that he would become a teacher, combining his passions of health and sport together to become a Physical and Health Education teacher who wanted to create change in the schools that he engaged with both through his educational training and in his future employment. As a result of this journey Brendan has become a dedicated hard working teacher who continually seeks to engage students in a variety of different ways focusing on the diverse needs of the students and what they require to be engaged in his classroom. Brendan enjoys engaging with students on their level making it known to them his own passion both in the sports and sport teams that he follows as well as in music and video games. He has found by providing these small details about himself students are willing to engage with him not only within the classroom but in other areas of the school community helping him to create a classroom that enthuses students to come to. Brendan seeks to provide a classroom that is open and inclusive which models the expectations that are expected as a teacher, seeking to further develop his skills as well as providing as many opportunities to students allowing them to develop their skills and understanding. |
